Mecklenburg County Woman Wins $1 Million Playing Mega Millions

Wouldn’t it be exciting to win $1 million dollars, what would you do with the money? Congratulations to Marjorie Robert of Huntersville for winning the July 29th Mega Millions jackpot of $1 million dollars. Robert bought her lucky $2 Mega Millions ticket from the Shop N Save on Mecklenburg Highway in Mooresville. She matched all five white balls to win the $1 million prize. The odds of matching all five white balls are 1 in 12.6 million.

She arrived at our lottery headquarters yesterday to collect her prize, and after federal and state tax withholdings, she took home $710,101. Robert’s win was one of two $1 million wins in North Carolina in the drawing for a $1.33 billion jackpot that was won in Illinois the same night. Friday’s Mega Millions drawing offers us a $65 million jackpot. A winner in North Carolina could take home the jackpot as an annuity paying out the $65 million over 29 years or choose instead to take home $37.9 million in cash.

How Americans Play Lottery and What They’d Do If They Won

Tonight is the big night people.  It is the Mega Millions drawing and Americans are ready to win the money! What if you won the lottery? My first thing would be paying off my bills, putting some away, and then most likely I would take a vacation.

The US has had a handful of record-setting lottery jackpots this year, and Americans are looking to get in on the action. A new report shows nearly a quarter of Americans play the lottery at least once a month, and almost half (44%) say they play more when there’s a big jackpot on the line.

Those who do strike it rich often try to keep the winnings quiet. 83% of Americans say they wouldn’t want to tell others if they won. Significant others are in luck though – people say they’d give their SO a little more than 25%, but also said they’d expect more than 25% if the roles were reversed.
