Massive 90 Acre Wildfire Continues To Burn North Carolina Mountains
A 90-acre wildfire in the North Carolina mountains continues to burn. The Collet Ridge Fire began on October 23rd and as of October 31st is still zero percent contained. This is reported by the US Forest Service. The fire originated at Collette Ridge (hence the name) which is about 4 miles south of Andrews, NC. 55 personnel are currently on hand battling the blaze. This includes one 20-person hand crew, 5 Engines, 2 helicopters, 1 air attack platform, and additional overhead personnel.
The US Forest Service reports that the arrival of a cold front is helpful in fighting the fire. The lower temperatures, cloud cover, potential for precipitation, and humidity will hopefully stunt the growth of the fire. It is reported that crews are taking precautions to protect buildings and structures in nearby towns. No roads are closed as of now, but it is recommended the area be avoided.
