Food is life! And movies have proved that for years. I think one of the first movie food scenes I ever saw was the classic Disney flick ‘Lady And The Tramp’. The spaghetti scene is a favorite! Food Beast has a list of the ’25 Most Iconic Movie Scenes Of All Time’ but I’ve narrowed the list down a bit. Personally, I don’t think Freddy Kruger and food go together, but the fifth installment of the horror franchise made this list. I’ve gone through and picked my favorite 5 scenes from the 25 listed. And I picked ones from movies I’ve seen. See if you agree!

All 25 movie/food scenes can be seen here but the below are some I love.

  • Goodfellas

Mob movies usually feature food as food and family go hand in hand. In the movie ‘Goodfellas’ food plays a central part in the movie. From family dinners at Paulie’s to Henry Hill’s famous ‘stir the sauce’ line, this movie gives us lots of great Italian food scenes. And I can’t leave out the food scene when Paulie and the boys are in prison. Love the cutting of the garlic with a razor blade so it’s very thin.

  • Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

Author Roald Dahl’s wonderful book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ is a kid’s classic, and I loved reading it as a child. How could a kid not like this book and subsequent movie ‘Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory’. It’s filled with chocolate, sugar, and candy! It’s a kid’s dream!  If you’ve seen the movie, then one of the scenes that stands out is when greedy Violet Beauregarde eats purple bubble gum after being told it was off limits.. The gum doubles as a three-course meal which is composed of tomato soup, roast beef and baked potato, and blueberry pie and ice cream. When she reaches the dessert her skin starts turning a somewhat indigo color and her body begins to swell up, filling with blueberry juice. It’s hard to forget a swollen, blue Violet!

  • Ratatouille

This Pixar film was released in 2007. I remember taking my step-kids to the movie theater to see it. Both of them loved it! The movie follows Remy, a young rat with excellent senses of taste and smell who lives in Paris. He dreams of becoming a chef like his human idol, the late Auguste Gusteau, and the movie follows him as he tries to accomplish that goal, with some help from a young human.

It’s a really cute movie and the center of it is a restaurant kitchen. If you haven’t seen it, check it out!

  • Lady And The Tramp

This movie is a must for me in regard to food in movies. The musical romance film from Disney follows the adventures of Lady, a pup who’s had a posh life, and Tramp, a scraggly street dog. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Lady ends up on the street and Tramp comes to her rescue and shows her how to survive. It’s a cute love story with two pups from different sides of the track, so to speak. The spaghetti sharing scene is the most popular scene in the movie.

  • The Goonies

This 1985 movie is a favorite of many, myself included. One of the characters, Chunk, is the male version of me! LOL! The adventure comedy follows a group of kids as they try and find the treasure of an old pirate, ‘One-Eyed Willie’.  ‘Chunk’ is the chubby, snack eater of the group. He always has food on him, usually something chocolate. In the movie, Chunk ends up in some criminal’s basement with their brother ‘Sloth’. Chunk makes quick friends with him, bonding over food, specifically a Baby Ruth candy bar. To this day if I see a Baby Ruth, I think of this movie!
