I’m a big fan of Greek food and I’m excited that the Yiasou Greek Festival in Charlotte is back this year. If you’ve never been it’s happening at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on East Blvd. September 9 thru September 11. There’s amazing food, entertainment, vendors and fun stuff for the kids. Years ago when I did a morning show in Columbia, S.C., I’d broadcast live every year at the Greek festival there. I loved it! The folks working the festival would hook me up with freshly prepared Greek food at 7 a.m. Good stuff!
If you enjoy Greek food and can’t make it to the festival this year, The Charlotte Observer has a list of the ’17 Best Greek Restaurants in the Charlotte area’.
One of the restaurants that made the list is in Belmont, N.C. which is close to me. Estia’s Kouzina is just of I 85, on the corner of Main Street and Hwy 74. It’s been a while since I’ve been but my experience there was good. The food was yummy and the portions were huge.
Although I’ve never eaten here, Yafo Kitchen is on the list and Phil goes there often. Both Phil and I are fans of food so if he says it’s good, then you should check it out. I trust his judgement!
This restaurant isn’t on the list, but I like it. Georgio’s Restaurant in Cramerton, N.C. is tasty. It’s my go-to place when I’m craving a big Greek salad. And they have a chicken dish with lemon gravy that is delightful! Fried squash is one of my all-time favorite things, and they’re one of the only places that makes it. It’s so good!
Lots of folks are traveling this weekend for Labor Day, but if you’re staying close to home and need a dinner idea, check out one of these Greek restaurants. Support local and have a great meal!
