Whenever I travel and need to find a place to spend one night, I’m not too picky about the accommodations. But if it’s two or more nights, I try to find a hotel with some character and history. It adds something to the trip. Luckily, most U.S. cities have at least one historic hotel that fits the bill.
Historic Hotel Bethlehem in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania has been named America’s best historic hotel by the editors and readers of USA Today’s 10Best. This is the second straight year the hotel has taken the top honor. Manager Bruce Haines said in a statement that the hotel couldn’t ask for a better way to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
The Bethlehem landmark beat out nine other famous hotels including the iconic Peabody in Memphis. Two hotels in South Carolina, the Wentworth Mansion in Charleston and Hotel Trundle in Columbia, also earned spots in the top ten. See the list below.
