This will be music to the ears of Parrot Heads everywhere. One more album of new material from the late Jimmy Buffett is coming this fall. According to Deadline, the 14-track collection entitled Equal Strain on All Parts will be out November 3rd.
After giving the world multiple decades-worth of beloved songs and creating an entire subculture, Jimmy Buffett died on September 1, 2023 of Merkel cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. He was 76.
The posthumously-released album will be Buffett’s first since 2020’s Life on the Flip Side, and includes some compelling collaborations. Among the new recordings is a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Mozambique,” with Emmylou Harris. Incidentally, she also sang on the 1976 original.
New Orleans’ iconic Preservation Hall Jazz Band is featured on “University of Bourbon Street.” Jimmy Buffett had a deep love for all things New Orleans and even lived there after graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1969.
Jimmy’s longtime pal, Paul McCartney, plays bass on “My Gummie Just Kicked In.” Sir Paul posted a touching tribute to his late friend following his passing, calling Buffett “one of the kindest and most generous people.”
