Taylor Swift will release 13 new songs on her album Midnight on October 21, 2022.
Something told me to watch the VMAs last night, especially when I realized Taylor Swift was going to be there. She showed up on the red carpet in a dress that looked eerily similar to the one she wore in the "Look What You Made Me Do" music video. That was exactly when I knew something was up. There are very rarely coincidences in anything Taylor Swift does.
She's known for her iconic and well-placed "easter eggs". Literally, everything is teased. And even with fans on high alert and always sleuthing, they rarely discover the secrets. After seeing the dress I was thinking we'd get a surprise performance. Most likely one of Look What You Made Me Do. It's been 5 years since the track came out so she can now legally re-record it. This year's VMAs was also the 13-year anniversary of the Kanye incident. But boy was I wrong.
Midnight
Taylor took home the night's highest honor, Video of the Year, and alluded to her re-recordings in her speech. She then proceeded to drop the news of a new album coming on October 21, 2022. And I, while expecting some sort of announcement, was SHOCKED. She told fans to stay tuned for an announcement at midnight and quickly her website dawned the simple text: Meet Me At Midnight. Fans, myself included speculated that we'd get a single. That 40 or so minutes felt like an eternity. But one I had to wait out. We did not get a single but we did learn that the title of the album will be "Midnights". And unknowingly the album title has been right under our noses for months.
Taylor says that this is a collection of songs "written in the middle of the night". This is hardly the first time she has mentioned specific times in the night and early morning hours in her songs. She famously has referenced 2 am many many times. But Taylor Swift also has several songs that already mention midnight.
It's fitting that this is the title considering I've spent so many nights waiting til midnight for a single or album release of Taylor's. While I am counting down the moments until Midnight is released or at least a lead-off track, I'll be listening to a playlist of these songs. There are six references in Swift's currently released discography. The references begin in RED and continue through Evermore. Which is your favorite midnight reference?
You can preorder the album now on her website.

It's the first and the most iconic. It feels like the perfect night for breakfast at midnight. (I did in fact go to Waffle House for breakfast at midnight after one of the Red Tour shows I went to).

Style
Perhaps the most iconic (to date) midnight is the opening of Style. It sets the scene of the iconic love story allegedly between Swift and Harry Styles. Midnight- You come and pick me up, no headlights, Long drive ,Could end in burning flames or paradise

New Years Day
Of course, a song titled New Years Day would reference midnight. It's one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs and my hands down favorite on reputation -but also my birthday is New Years Day so you know... The song references a relationship built around the little things, not just the big moments. The line"I want your midnights But I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day describes the relationship with the guy who stays not just for the party but for life. You go Joe Alwyn.

The Last Great American Dynasty
The descriptive story track about Rebecca Harkness the previous owner of Taylor's Watch Hill Rhode Island mansion gives us our next midnight reference. They say she was seen on occasion, Pacing the rocks, staring out at the midnight sea.

Happiness
While not the joyful song that title suggests, Happiness is about the promise of one day finding happiness again after a breakup. What was ultimately bad was still good at times. She sings "From the dress I wore at midnight, leave it all behind And there is happiness:
