TOPSAIL BEACH- SEPTEMBER 11: A mandatory evacuation is in effect in preparation of the approaching Hurricane Florence, on September 11, 2018 in Topsail Beach, North Carolina. Hurricane Florence is expected on Friday possibly as a category 4 storm along the Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina coastline.

It’s always a double-edged sword when one of your favorite spots ends up on a list like this. For one, you want to see it succeed and be recognized for the gem that it is. But there is also the part of you that wants to gatekeep, keep costs down to visit, and avoid those summer crowds. And that’s definitely how I feel about this. HomeToGo conducted an in-depth analysis of traveler search patterns to reveal how U.S. and international travelers are planning their spring and summer vacations in 2023. One of the discoveries they made was the most in-demand travel locations. These are the spots both abroad and domestically, that have seen the largest increases in demand. And one of my favorite North Carolina island destinations was named the number one most sought-after travel destination.

In fact, another North Carolina town was ranked in the top 5 of these rankings as well. And this is with stiff competition, including spots in Greece, France, and Cyprus. I mean, it’s a place I love to visit year-round, but I’d still pick Europe above it! You can read the full HomeToGo study here including statistics on other summer travel trends. Or keep reading to see which North Carolina island ranked as the most sought-after travel destination nationwide for summer 2023.
