When you think of haunted cities where do you think of first? From what I’ve heard there is a bit of a rivalry between Savannah and New Orleans as to what is truly the most haunted city in America. But if you believe in such things, you can find a little bit of spooky, haunted history, in almost every city in the US. And that means here in North Carolina there are some haunted stories as well. In fact, while you may have never known there are numerous cities in North Carolina that offer ghost tours and other spooky adventures.

North Carolina Ghost Tours

And with Halloween fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to start planning. Places like Scarowinds and haunted trails can be fun for sure. But to me, there is something more ominous about listening to true stories while wandering dark streets blissfully unaware of what could be around you, than walking through a crowded man-made haunted attraction. Knowing someone is trying to scare me, I’m expecting it. Plus there are countless other people in the same place, and often times they are more gorey than eerie.  I’m more scared walking through the parking deck at work (for real though) at night than I am at a haunted house. So it’s no surprise ghost tours are my preferred scary attraction.

Believe it or not, I’m not 100% sold on the existence of paranormal activity. I’ve heard stories and seen video (thanks to my dad watching Ghost Hunters back in the day), that certainly makes me wonder. But despite having gone on a number of ghost tours in cities like Savannah, Charleston, Williamsburg, and Boston among others I’ve never witnessed anything to make me a true believer. But the stories, the history, and that element of the unknown keep me fascinated and always looking for my next ghost tour. So no matter what North Carolina city you find yourself in this fall season, check out one of these haunted history tours. Below are 9 different cities in the state that offer ghost tours, some have only one option, and others have numerous. Have you done any of these? I’d love to hear about it and your recommendations! Happy haunts!
