Vintage Photos Of Women Doing Crazy Things In The Name Of Beauty
Women do some crazy and wild things for the sake of beauty. We’re lucky today that we don’t have to endure what women of the past did. Bored Panda has some old school pictures of women doing some incredibly odd things in the name of beauty.
As I rolled through the pictures, some of the beauty treatments of the past shocked me! The full faced swimming mask from the 1920’s will give you nightmares! The thing looks like a Halloween mask! Sunscreen wasn’t invented until the mid 1940’s, so ladies at the pool wore a “freckleproof cape” to protect themselves. Another nightmare for ya! In the 1920’s, wooden swimsuits were a thing. Yup! WOODEN! Think of the splinters…ugh!
Beauty pageants were quite different many years ago. In the 1930’s, they had faceless beauty contests. Women would wear swimsuits but their faces were covered with a weird top-hat mask thing. Really weird! Also in the 1930’s, there was a “Miss Lovely Eyes Beauty Pageant” Contestants would wear masks to cover their faces, with the eyes the only thing visible.
I could go on and on and describe the pictures, but you should really see them all. Half of the pictures look like they’re Halloween costumes! I’m so very thankful we don’t have to endure any of these old school beauty treatments/procedures/contests. Much love to the women before us!! All the pics are here. They are a trip!
