Old-School Charlotte Burger Named Best In N.C.
Another day, another national burger ranking. Who am I kidding? I love this kind of stuff. This time it comes from the writers at Food & Wine. Given so many possible burger choices and variations, Food & Wine decided to focus their picks for the best burger in each state with the meat, concentrating on high-quality beef prepared correctly on a great bun.
Their selection for the best burger in North Carolina is right here in Charlotte, and it’s no surprise that NoDa’s beloved Brooks’ Sandwich House would get the nod. They’ve won more than a few of these “best burger” honors over the years. Food & Wine recommends ordering one of Brooks’ house burgers “all the way,” with mustard, onion, and beef chili, then adding a slab of crispy fried livermush on top. I can’t argue with that.
As for South Carolina, the honor of best burger goes to Rockaway Athletic Club in Columbia. Food & Wine describes the eatery as “fun-loving…which is neither athletic nor a club, but rather, an entertaining indoor-outdoor bar and late-night hang.” And the menu item that put them over the top is the Rockaway Pimento Cheeseburger, made with their signature pimento cheese. You can see the complete state-by-state list here.
