McAdenville, NC Brings Back Pre-Covid Christmas Magic In 2021
I’ve you’ve lived in the Charlotte area for any length of time you’ve heard of, and most likely visited, what is referred to as ‘Christmastown USA’. You’ll be happy to hear that McAdenville is bringing back its Christmas celebration in 2021. The yearly tradition was dramatically scaled back last year as a result of the pandemic. The town boasts a 60+ year tradition of transforming into a winter wonderland paradise full of lights, decor, and joy. The entire Gaston County town, with a population of fewer than 1000 people, is decorated to the nines and visitors drive from all over to see the lights. You can park and walk through the town or enjoy the festivities in your vehicle as well.
Traditions include the tree lighting which will be held Wednesday, December 1st in from of the YMCA. There, children from McAdenville Elementary School will pull the switch light the tree around 6 pm and officially begin the most magical time of the year. Another beloved tradition is the Yule Log Ceremony, which is scheduled for December 16th. The ceremony will begin at 5 pm on the lawn of the Pharr Corporate Office. At 5:50 a small parade will begin that will end with the lighting of the Yule Log at 6 pm at Legacy Park.
Highlights of the displays include a nativity scene in front of the McAdenville Baptist Church, 25o evergreen trees decorated in half a million lights, 100 personal homes decorated, and festive music. Visiting Christmastown USA is always free. The lights will be on nightly December 1st-26th from 5:30 pm to 10 pm. If you plan to visit McAdenville for Christmas 2021 plan ahead as traffic can back up onto Interstate 85 and Highway 74 to get into town. It’s always busy and I can imagine this year will be even more so!
