4th Graders Stage Protest To Bring Back Chocolate Milk To Their Lunch Menu
I love this story! We see some many depressing things in the news, especially about protests, but this is one I can get behind! A group of students at a school in California are not happy that chocolate milk is being pulled from their lunch menu. So, they decided to do something about it.
According to ABC7-Los Angeles, students at Sierra Vista K-8 school walked out on classes in response to chocolate milk being taken away. Elaine Kong, director of communications and community engagement for the district, said that fourth grader Jordan Reed decided to organize his classmates for a walkout last Friday.
As a result of the peaceful but stern protest, a compromise was made and chocolate milk will be making a return to Sierra Vista’s menu one day every other week. It’s better than no chocolate milk.
I am a huge fan of chocolate and although I understand the too much sugar argument, they’re kids! I love the fact that the kids organized a peaceful but serious protest. As the Beastie Boys sang, “You gotta fight for your right….” Kids learned an organized protest can get you what you want and they learned how to compromise. Excellent lessons!
You gotta pick your battles in life and I’d say chocolate is definitely worth fighting for!
