Krispy Kreme’s New Doughnuts Are Inspired By Ice Cream
Remember the delight you felt as a kid when the ice cream truck was on your block? You’d hear the music before you even saw the truck! Of course, that gave you time to get some money together for your favorite treat. Now your favorite ice cream treat has been combined with your favorite doughnut.
As part of its 85th birthday celebration, the chain has partnered with Popsicle and Good Humor to recreate some classic ice cream truck favorites as doughnuts. According to Tasting Table, Krispy Kreme is releasing three new doughnuts that will be available for a limited time. They hit stores today and the doughnuts are inspired by the Popsicle Firecracker the Vanilla King Cone, and the Creamsicle.
The Firecracker doughnut is an original glazed doughnut dipped in blue raspberry sugar and topped with white and red icing. The Vanilla King Cone doughnut is filled with vanilla custard Kreme, dipped in chocolate, and topped with a combination of sugar cone pieces, peanuts, and chocolate drizzle. The Creamsicle doughnut is filled with vanilla custard Kreme, iced with a Creamsicle-inspired orange icing, and topped with a drizzle of white icing and sprinkles. Yum!
When I think of the ice cream I had as a kid, I always think of the orange sherbet ‘Push-Up”. I ate those things almost every day at the pool. Lots of memories associated with that ice cream! Writing about them now is giving me a craving for one.
I’m guessing I’d like the Creamsicle doughnut the best. Phil and I may need to try them to see if they take us back to our ice cream truck days in the 70’s and 80’s. On my way home tonight I am going to have to get some orange sherbet. Just for the nostalgia!
