Janitor Reveals Hack For Getting Dark Stains Out Of Carpet And It Really Works
Living in an older apartment building, there’s carpet in many of the units. I have carpet in my den and bedroom and I hate it. Having dogs and allergies, I’d much rather have hard wood or laminate flooring. In my den, I have a dark stain near the door to my balcony and one as you walk into the den. I’m guessing it’s just from constant walking and my dogs. It annoys me so much that I bought a carpet cleaner and still, the stains appear. I’ve even bent down and smelled the carpet to make sure one of my dogs wasn’t peeing in the house. No smell….just dark spots. This morning I saw a ‘cleaning hack’ and thought I’d give it a try.
According to Yahoo, a janitor and popular Instagram and TikTok user Brandon Pleshek, @cleanthatup, is sharing a DIY hack for getting stains out of carpet. He is using items you probably already have at home. In the video, he’s cleaning a pink stain out of light carpet using rubbing alcohol, soap, and water. And it works!
In his video, he’s cleaning a house and finds a mystery pink spot on the carpet. By spraying the stain with one cup 70% isopropyl alcohol, one teaspoon of Dawn dish soap, and one cup of water, the stain comes out. He sprays the carpet with the mixture and rubs it with a soft bristle brush. Then he uses a white towel, dabbing the stain, seeing that it’s coming out. Repeating this process, the stain eventually comes out.
Testing Time To See If It Works
After reading this, I decided to try it myself. Luckily I have rubbing alcohol, Dawn and water! Instead of using a soft bristle brush, I used a clean kitchen sponge. Due to the age of my carpet, it took a few times of repeating the process for the stains to come out, but it did work! If you don’t have the products necessary for this hack, they’re all cost effective and buying all the ingredients is still cheaper than buying a carpet spray. Using this method is better for your health too!
According to the Environmental Working Group, using isopropyl alcohol as a cleaning element shouldn’t cause health issues or environmental issues, like some other cleaning products. Having allergies, this is good news! This mixture is also less toxic to animals, and having dogs, this is more good news.
If you have kids or pets, then you probably have some stains on carpet. Others are saying this hack works, and I am too, so you may want to check it out!
