This May Be The Oddest White Elephant Gift Ever
The holidays are over and folks are hitting social media to chat about the gifts they’ve received. A woman is going viral for a video showing her talking about the odd gift she got at a ‘White Elephant’ gift exchange. Lots of times folks bring silly or embarrassing gifts for this type of exchange. The gifts are almost always $20-$25 dollars and under. Despite this gift being weird, I think it did hit that price point.
So if you’re unfamiliar with the ‘White Elephant’ gift exchange, people also call it ‘Dirty Santa’ or ‘Yankee Swap’. The point of the whole thing is to try and walk away with the best gift. Now, if you have a large family or group of folks doing this, it can take HOURS! My mom’s family is quite large, and they’ve done this at Christmas lots. Celebrating Christmas with my mom’s family is fun, but I only went once. Participating in a ‘White Elephant’ gift exchange is something they love! It was too damn long for me.
The premise is that everyone attending the event brings a gift and places it under the tree. People are sit in a circle, everyone is given a number. The first person chooses a gift, and opens it, making sure everyone can see the gift. The next person can choose to take that gift or chooses an unwrapped gift from the pool. And it goes on and on til there are no more gifts. It can be fun, although it takes some time to get through.
@wunderbri is going viral on TikTok for sharing her experience at a recent ‘White Elephant’ gift party. The gift she chooses gets snagged by someone else, so she picks a gift out that says, ‘Fragile’ on it. Thinking, as most of us would, that it was something breakable, she was careful with the gift. When she opens the gift, she gets a surprise! She ends up with a live goldfish in a bowl. A goldfish!
Who Gives A Live Animal As A Random Gift?
I’ve been at these gift parties when someone is opening a gift and they start turning red because it’s of an ‘adult nature’ but never have I seen someone open up a gift and get a damn pet! One of the BIG issues is she gets a goldfish in a bowl and has cats! Just a bowl, with no top, meaning her cats can snag it!
Who the hell brings a live animal to a gift exchange? Where’s your brain?! Granted, the gift DID fit the conditions of being under $25, but come on! NOW the person that gets this gift must spend money as food is needed for the fish. It’s funny but so odd!

The Best And Worst Pets For Families With Young Kids
Best: Dogs & Cats
There are many benefits for children who have a dog at home, including feelings of increased happiness, higher self-esteem, better cognitive skills, and even less stress. Dr. Fox recommends Labs, Poodles, King Charles, Havanese, and Pugs as good breeds for families with kids. If it’s a cat you want, Dr. Fox says that “any kind is fine, though Bengals, Savannah Cats, and Siamese cats tend to be a bit spicier as far as temperament goes.”

Worst: Birds
Small birds like parakeets are amazing pets, but young children may not understand that they can’t pet small birds and must hold them gently. Birds also love to sing and squawk, which can get loud and disruptive depending on the bird. Plus, kids have to remember to keep windows and doors to outside closed if the bird is out, and it can be challenging to catch and put them in their cage when they fly the coop.

Best: Rats
Surprised? Rats can be as smart and friendly as cats. They might even let you pick them up and even hang out on your shoulder. Rats enjoy having your attention and being pet, but they must be handled with care since they are small creatures that live short lives.

Worst: Rabbits, Mice, Gerbils & Hamsters
While adorable, these little critters are also fragile, generally skittish around humans, and not that clean. Small, delicate rodents require a lot of maintenance and accessories. They also tend to be nocturnal and you probably want your kids to be able to sleep at night.

Best: Guinea Pigs
These are the perfect alternative to rabbits, mice, and gerbils because they’re much friendlier. Guinea pig purring can be quite amusing to children, they can easily be picked up and held, and they can even be taught to do tricks.

Worst: Ferrets
While intelligent, ferrets are apt to bite and your small children may not understand or like that. Additionally, ferrets possess impressive escape skills and are quick to dash towards an open door. They can be a lot to handle.

Best: Fish
They may not be cuddly, but fish are a great first pet for young kids. Fish are beautiful to watch and can teach children to be responsible pet owners since they need to be fed daily. Kids as young as three-years-old can sprinkle the food into the tank. However, adults should make sure the tank is kept clean to prevent germs and illnesses such as salmonella from developing.
