You May Want To Stop Using This Lotion, And The Reason Is Wild
Over the holidays, you may have received some beauty products. Specialty lotions are a great gift, especially in the winter as our skin becomes drier. If you got a particular lotion from Sephora, you may want to throw it away. And the reason is wild!
According to Bored Panda, a particular body butter Sephora is selling is said to attract spiders. Yup! Sol de Janeiro’s Delicia Drench body butter is a popular skincare product. It’s going viral because of an odd reason: some users are saying that it attracts wolf spiders. A comedian on X (Twitter), @samlymatters, posted the review of the lotion and folks are commenting on it left and right.
The review by one user says that while using the lotion, wolf spiders were drawn to her. She says she hasn’t seen a spider in a long time, and then while using this lotion, she saw them daily. In addition, she says that one spider was chasing after her while she was wearing the lotion. WTH? Now folks are becoming scientists, trying to figure out if the review is true.
#heyitsjustchoco is one of the folks that conducted an experiment with the lotion. According to her post, she put some of the lotion on a tissue while at work. After four hours, she saw two spiders. After ten hours, there were more than two spiders going for the tissue. I’m guessing there is a particular ingredient in the lotion that the spiders like.
Is It Just This One Lotion?
Now, I’m not a scientist but I’m guessing that it’s not just this lotion attracting spiders. There are probably lots of scented lotions that attract different types of bugs and critters. Years ago, I wore a particular lotion that would cause mosquitos to come at me. They like me anyway, so I stopped using the lotion when I’d be outside for a bit.
After other people were commenting about dealing with wolf spiders while wearing this lotion, a 2009 Reddit post popped up, saying that there are some beauty products that contain an ingredient similar to female spider pheromones. So, is the claim true?
Scientists are saying it’s highly unlikely that the spiders are popping up because of this particular lotion. They’re stating that people are probably noticing more spiders around because it’s getting colder outside and they’re looking for a warm spot. The company that makes the lotion is also coming out and saying that there are no compounds in their products that would cause any issue with spiders, or any insect.
The posting about spiders being attracted to the lotion is taking off on the internet, but it’s just one of those ‘fake’ news things. I’m not saying that people using the lotion are lying or that they didn’t see more spiders, there’s just no scientific proof.
Of course, now you KNOW I have to buy this lotion to conduct my own experiment. I’m always in need of a good lotion that helps with very dry skin. I’ll get back to ya and let you know if I see any spiders around me. LOL!
