1980’s ‘Brat Pack’ Documentary Coming To Hulu This Year
If you grew up in the 1980’s, then there’s a very good chance you were watching movies starring one of the ‘Brat Packers’. In addition to watching lots of movies starring these actors and actresses, there’s also a chance you wanted to be like one of them and/or had a mad crush on one or more of them. Now we can all relive our favorite 80’s talent in a new documentary coming to Hulu later this year.
The 80’s-era ‘Brat Packer’s consisted of Andrew McCarthy, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, and others. ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’, The Breakfast Club’, ‘Pretty in Pink’, and ‘Sixteen Candles’ were all popular movies starring some or all of the ‘Brat Pack’ members. Andrew McCarthy is reuniting many of his former co-stars for a Hulu documentary called ‘Brats’.
In the documentary, McCarthy will be looking at the massive popularity of the ‘Brat Pack’ and how that intense popularity has impacted their lives since the 1980’s. According to People Magazine, McCarthy is writing and directing the documentary. This particular group of actors and actresses were a cultural phenomenon. They were THE Hollywood stars in the 80’s. Many of the members are currently still acting and are still popular.
Who Was Your Favorite
For whatever reason, I loved Molly Ringwald when I was a young teenager. In 1984 my family went out to California for a week to attend the 1984 Summer Olympics. I have three brothers, so as the only girl, I often was able to score shopping outings. While we were in California, I went to a store on Rodeo Drive that Ringwald was known to shop in. My step-mom let me pick out one outfit from the store. I got a light lime green pair of Guess overalls, a pink Guess shirt, and some accessories. I thought I was THE DEAL when I wore the outfit to school in the fall. And if I’m not mistaken, I wore those overalls through high school.
The ‘Brat Pack’ and their movies were identifiable to many of us in the 80’s. In ‘Sixteen Candles’, all of us were hoping for a Jake Ryan to sweep us off our feet. Swoon! In ‘The Breakfast Club’, all of us could identify with the insecurities of the characters. In that movie, almost every 80’s teen was represented, and we all felt the struggles the characters were dealing with because many of us were dealing with similar struggles. I could go on and on, because those actors and their movies were such a big part of my life. In addition, some of those movies are still on my favorites list, and I’m sure I’m not alone.
It will be interesting to see how that high level of fame affected each of the actors differently. Of course, we know that some of them had a hard time. For example, Robert Downey Jr. dealt with addiction issues for many years. McCarthy also dealt with addiction. In 2021. McCarthy’s memoir about his life and career in the 1980s, titled Brat: An ’80s Story, came out. Gotta read it!
I’m can’t wait to see this doc! I’d love to know how the actors dealt with the fame and if they liked it. Also, the nostalgia will be awesome! It’ll take me, and you if you’re an 80’s kid, back to a simpler time and give us some insight into our favorite movies. There’s no exact release date, but the documentary will be available on Hulu later this year.
