I've also found out that they're absolutely mesmerizing to watch! It's an odd, quiet competition but somewhat satisfying, especially if you're a very neat person.
As I was scrolling through Facebook Tuesday, I stumbled across a video in my feed that caught my attention. In the video, two gentlemen are in a hotel banquet room that's filled with people, making up a full or queen size bed. After Googling this, I found out that Chinese Bed Making Competitions are a thing, They're quite popular in China and in Japan.
China’s hospitality sector routinely holds bed-making competitions that both showcase the skill and dedication of hotel employees and motivate others to achieve the same level. According to Oddity Central, in order to provide guests with amazing hospitality services, Chinese luxury hotels require their staff to undergo very intensive bed making training.

The best bed makers get to participate in bed making tournaments hosted by hotel chains or at the regional or national level. National level?! This is hardcore! Those entered into the interesting race are judged on speed, bed making rules, and their attention to detail. Sheets and pillows must be straight, and all corners of the sheets must be creased a certain way. As weird as it sounds, it's a trip to watch!
I'm A Bed Maker
As a kid, I had to make my bed daily, and that chore has stuck with me as an adult. I make my bed every day. Now, I won't' say it's always made with precision, but it's made. Years ago, I had a roommate that bet me I couldn't go a week without making my bed. I did it, but it was a bit difficult. Some people are just into neatness and order and I'm one of those people.
I'll admit that when folding a fitted sheet I'm a slob. I don't stress about wrinkles, and I don't tuck in the corners in a tight way. I'm just happy to have clean sheets and a bed looking nice. Throw pillows are also a thing for me. Once a boyfriend told me I had too many pillows on my bed. He got 'the look' and didn't say it again. LOL! I like a comfy, happy looking bedroom.
Watching the videos of these amazing hotel workers makes me feel like a slob! The way they put the sheets on the bed, the accuracy and purposeful intent is impressive. And there's something calming about seeing these folks making a bed. I can't explain it, but it's quite satisfying.
After doing some more Googling online, I found out that there are bed making events here in America. According to Sleepopolis, hotel employees and housekeepers in Tulsa, Oklahoma and in San Antonio, Texas have competed in bed making events during 'International Housekeeping Week'.
If you're like me and are a bit of a neat freak and have a bit of OCD, seeing these videos will leave you wanting to watch more.
