This may be THE nastiest wedding gifts ever! Someone saw a post on a wedding planning group on Facebook, and now the story is going viral. According to LadBible, a newly married woman is sharing the disgusting gift her now husband’s groomsman gave the couple. The groomsman, Fred, gave the couple a paperweight made from the groom’s toenails. UGH!
The now married couple dated for 8 years prior to their wedding ceremony. The groomsman told the couple, at the wedding, that he had been collecting the groom’s toenail clippings for 8 years. While making the gift for the couple, he also added in some of his toenail clippings. He then glued the toenails together with concrete glue into the shape of a paperweight. Obviously the bride was not happy!
The bride shared her disgust on social media, and the story is going viral. Someone shared the post she made on Facebook to Reddit, and lots of folks have strong feelings. Most people are commenting that the gift was appalling. And to present the couple the toenails at the wedding is just so not classy. Very inappropriate!

Why The Nasty Wedding Gift
If you’re like me, you’re wondering why in the world the groomsman Fred came up with this gift. Apparently, he and the groom were roommates for years, and the groom was a bit of a slob. Fred gave the couple a letter with the toenail gift which read, ‘To my favorite couple, [your] husband was such a gross dude in college. He always left his clipped nails all over the dorm.’ The letter then said that he’d been collecting the toenails for 8 years and said the gift would remind the groom of their college years.
Fred also thought it’d be a great gift because it’s a one of a kind item. My guess is Fred is single and not dating! Some folks at the wedding laughed and found humor in the situation, but the bride was not amused. And I can’t blame her. It’s pretty gross!
That said, I’m guessing Fred thought this was a ‘cute’ way to get back at the groom since he was pretty nasty while they were roommates. As a bachelor party gift, totally acceptable. At the wedding, not so much. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending how ya look at it, there are no pictures of the toenail paperweight. I think most of us can imagine what the thing looks like. Cue hurling noise!
Not knowing the couple, I can’t say this with 100% confidence, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Fred won’t be invited to the newlyweds house for dinner anytime soon!
Ditching Tradition: A Look At 'Anti-Wedding' Trends
It’s easy to become overwhelmed when planning a wedding. From booking the venue and the caterer to the guest list and music selections, there’s a lot of decisions leading up to the big day. The latest trend to take social media by storm is “anti-bride.” Many soon-to-be brides are embracing the trend that encourages people to ditch the pressure of wedding traditions and go for more of a personal experience.
Last year, a Pinterest x Zola wedding report showed an increase in searches for “anti-bride wedding.” On TikTok, Zola, the wedding planning platform, shared posts about the trend. They described it as a way for couples to take the reins on wedding planning, giving them the freedom to do what they want with no rules.
Amy Shack Egan, or who some call “The Anti-Wedding Wedding Planner” mentioned in a 2022 interview with The Cut that “love parties” are meant to reflect the couple rather than adhere to societal expectations.
Couple taking a break from tradition with anti-wedding trends
Anti-wedding doesn’t mean no wedding at all. Some people see it as having a micro wedding with a smaller guest list or saying no to party favors and excessive extras. It could also be having a wedding at home, wearing an inexpensive dress from Target that’s not white at all. Many anti-brides are even opting to walk down the aisle by themselves or with their partner, or not walking down the aisle. This trend become a financial necessity for some people.
Throughout the years, plenty of celebrities have followed the anti-wedding trend. For instance, in 1997, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick had an anti-wedding. People reported that the couple exchanged vows at New York City’s Angel Orensanz Synagogue. The pair invited friends and family to the event under the guise that it was just a party. In the end, they surprised roughly 100 guests with a wedding. Parker said “I do” in a black dress rather than the traditional white.
In 2022, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck got married in Vegas with a very relaxed wedding ceremony. Entertainment News reported that the couple got married next to a Caesar’s Palace blackjack table. Affleck changed into the white jacket he’d grabbed out of his closet in the men’s room. Meanwhile, Lopez wore a dress she used in an old movie.
