History of The Historic Magnolia House
While today it is a premiere bed and breakfast in Greensboro, it used to serve as a ‘Green Book’ Hotel as one of the only places offering accommodations to African American travelers at a time when they were not allowed to share accommodations with Caucasians.
The Historic Magnolia House has hosted some impressive names as well. According to its website, famous visitors include James Brown, Ray Charles, Ruth Brown, Ike and Tina Turner, Joe Tex, Carter G. Woodson, and Jackie Robinson.
That’s quite a lineup of visitors! The hotel first opened in 1949 and was a popular spot (and one of the only options) for travelers going between Atlanta, Georgia, and Richmond, Virginia.
