North Carolina Lake Park Named 4th Best Picnic Spot Nationwide
A picnic is a great way to get outside, slow down, and enjoy nature. It’s something I don’t do enough but enjoy when I get the chance. For instance, I loved getting to enjoy a picnic lunch in Central Park with my friends last fall. But you don’t have to travel all the way to a (very crowded) Central Park in New York City for a perfect picnic. In fact, a North Carolina Lake Park was named the 4th best picnic spot nationwide.
This is according to a recent survey by Mixbook. They conducted a survey of over 3,000 Americans with the goal of determining the top “off-grid” picnic locations in the US- the best picnic spot. Mixbook describes these spots as “lesser-known locations, cherished for their tranquility and natural beauty”. Locations on this list are escapes that offer a quieter experience than places like the aforementioned Central Park.
So which North Carolina lake is the best picnic spot? It’s a place I’ve been to numerous times, though I don’t recall ever slowing down for a picnic there. It’s Raleigh, North Carolina’s Lake Johnson.
Lake Johnson Park totals 500 acres with the namesake lake occupying 150 acres. Lake Johnson Park includes a paved greenway and natural surface trails. There is also fishing, paddling, sailing, a swimming pool, as well as shelters available for rental.
The scenic lake makes a great place to have a picnic. Most of my trips to the lake, which is a short drive from NC State’s campus, were to run laps around the lake. I can honestly say I did not enjoy that experience nor was it one I sought on my own.
Perhaps I’ll pay another visit to this park where I have so many memories in the future. Lake Johnson wasn’t the only Carolina location recognized as a best picnic spot. 4 other locations were was well.
