James Holzhauer Blames End of His ‘Jeopardy’ Winning Streak On Drake
When it comes to his own career, Drake often ends up on top. The teams he roots for don’t usually fare as well. And that’s what James Holzhauer jokingly attributed the end of his incredible Jeopardy winning streak to.
“The Drake Curse” is a running joke among sports fans: the teams and athletes that Drake tends to root for tend to lose. Victims of the “Curse” include Conor McGregor who lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov during UFC 229 and the Alabama Crimson Tide who lost to the Clemson Tigers in January. The French soccer club Paris Saint-Germain recently fell victim to the “curse” as well: Layvin Kurzawa, a player on the team, took a photo with Drake before a championship match. Two days later, they endured the worst loss in team history. After that, an Italian soccer club banned players from taking photos with Drake.

Holzhauer, who was just $58,484 from smashing Ken Jennings’ all-time Jeopardy record (Jennings won $2.52 million over 74 games in 2004), lost last night after an uncharacteristically low “Final Jeopardy” bet of $1,399 (a librarian named Emma Boettcher beat him, with a final tally of $46,801 to Holzhauer’s $24,799).
A professional sports gambler and a pop culture aficionado, Holzhauer blamed Drake, tweeting, “Knew I shouldn’t have invited @Drake to the @Jeopardy taping.”
