NC State Requiring Student-Athletes To Be Vaccinated For Away Games
In order to play in any away games this year NC State University student-athletes will be required to be vaccinated. While the vaccine is not required for students on campus, or in general for student-athletes, it will be in order to play in games on the road. According to the Raleigh news outlet, WRAL a spokesperson for the University told them they will limit travel to coaches, staff, and student-athletes that have been vaccinated or those with an exception obtained through the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity. The athletic department will have full discretion in implementing this policy.
This policy comes after the Wolfpack’s College World Series run was cut short due to positive COVID-19 cases. Four of those players were however vaccinated. While not currently announced, it would not be surprising to see other NC colleges follow suit. Currently, NC State’s head football coach Dave Doren says 90% of players on the team are vaccinated. It’s unknown who the unvaccinated are. The team kicks off the season a week from today at home against South Florida. They will travel the next week to Starksville, MS to take on Mississippi State.
Just want to point out a note that @AlecSawyer included in this story from our sources over at @PackPride — which was confirmed by Dave Doeren last night:
