Grandmother And Teen She Mistakenly Texted Reunite For 6th Thanksgiving
There’s a good chance you remember this story. I do! It’s one of those stories you remember because it’s just so amazing!
Six years ago, grandmother Wanda Dench sent a text to her grandson. Well, she thought it was her grandson. Apparently he changed his number without telling her, so her text went to a 17 year old teen named Jamal Hinton. The 2016 text was an invite to Thanksgiving dinner. After some confusion that was cleared up with mutually-exchanged selfies, Hinton asked Dench, who is from Arizona, if he could still come over to dinner. She said yes, and a life-long friendship began.
According to Yahoo, the two have spent every Thanksgiving together since 2016 and will spend this Thanksgiving together too. Hinton is now 22 years old and he and his girlfriend are spending the holiday with Dench, who lost her husband to COVID in 2020.
Although it’s an unlikely friendship, the two have remained close all these years. Dench says they teach each other things and have learned so much about life chatting with each other.
This story warms my heart! We see so much negative online and on the news. It can be so depressing at times. However, this story shows us that good people do exist in the world. I love that their friendship has continued. Thanksgiving is about being grateful and thankful and the relationship between these two embodies the Thanksgiving spirit.
