Cashier Won’t Take Woman’s $100 Bill And Her Reasoning Is Going Viral
I’m trying not to sound like an old person, complaining about ‘kids today’ but we need to do better as a society. If the internet ever crashes, there are some kids that are going to have a really hard time. A woman is going viral on TikTok after sharing her story of what happened at a store in New Hampshire and people are shaking their heads.
According to Distractify, TikTok creator Kasey Lee, @kaseybay326, was at a store buying some items. The total of her merchandise was $142. She tried paying with a $100 bill and the cashier wouldn’t accept it. The cashier, an 18-year-old, after looking at the bill, decided it was fake.
The $100 bill was an older one and after the cashier looked at the date, she saw 1990 on the bill. After seeing the date, the cashier explained to Lee that the bill was counterfeit because they didn’t ‘make $100 bills back in 1990’. Bless. Lee asked the cashier to please get the manager. Once the manager arrived, she also said the money was fake. Lee says the manager was 26 years old.
Lee truly thought the folks at the store were messing with her. Then the story gets even crazier! Since the employees thought the bill was counterfeit, they called the police. Lee says the cops were hilarious in regard to the ordeal. The police asked the employees why they thought the bill was fake, and they said the bill was ‘expired’. The cops, messing with the employees, asked for them to find the ‘expiration date’ on the bill. LOL!
Now, Lee has a few videos on her TikTok about this whole ruckus. She admits that she doesn’t fault the employees, as dealing with cash probably isn’t something they learn in school anymore. Most of us pay with cards. Still, if school doesn’t teach kids about money, parents probably should. Especially if their kids are planning on working in retail.
Sadly, many kids cannot make change without a cash register telling them what the amount should be. When I was teaching, students were always asking me to turn the TV on so that they could see what time it was. When I pointed to the clock on the wall, I found out they couldn’t tell time on an analog clock. Shocking! These were 7th graders. Although, I realize the world is different now, I assumed kids would be able to tell time.
The situation is funny, but a bit sad too! If Google goes away, we’re screwed!
@kaseybay326 it's bad enough they can't tell time, address an envelope or make change ... at least they should know what all legal tender in the US looks like - Imagine if I had tried to use a $2 bill or silver dollar for that matter #dobetteramerica #whatareweteachingthem #old100dollarbill #kaseybay

@kaseybay326 Replying to @kezhenci It's actually a law (here in NH at least) that if a store employee suspects someone of counterfeit $ that the confiscate the money and attempt to detain the person until police are able to determine what's what #cophadjokes #funnymoney #moneybefore1990 olderthan$100bills #kaseybay #kaseybay326
