Earlier this week I chatted about the oddest names that parents named their kids here in the U.S. over the last year. Well, a mom in New Zealand has just moved to the top of the “odd kids name” list worldwide.
According to Blabbermouth, an unidentified woman in New Zealand has reportedly named her three kids after popular heavy metal bands. The names of her kids are Metallica, Slayer, and Pantera. I don’t even know where to start with this!
Hard rock and heavy metal are the genres of music I love the most and know the most about. And if you’re familiar with the music then you know that Metallica, Slayer, and Pantera are three of the heaviest bands ever. As much as I dig the music, I’m not sure I’d go this route when naming kids. I mean, I think Slayer would be a cool pet’s name, but not for a kid!
A journalist and documentary filmmaker, David Farrier, investigated the names of the kids and has seen their birth certificates. Making this story even crazier, Farrier found out that the kid named Metallica has a middle name of “And Justice For All”, in honor of the band’s fourth album. OMG!
I’m pretty sure these kids stand out in school as it’s doubtful there are other kids with the same names. I’ve met thousands of people while working in radio, and I’ve even met some of the band members in Pantera and Slayer, but I’ve never met anyone named after these bands! If this mom has two more kids, she could round out the ‘Big 4’ in heavy metal. She just needs a kid named Anthrax and Megadeath and she’ll be good!
Anthrax is one of my all-time favorite bands and I’ve seen them tons of times. I’ve met them numerous times, and they’re such good dudes. As I get older, my concert days seem to be less and less, but Anthrax is one of the bands I’ll always see when they’re touring. Such a good time and they always sound amazing!
With these names, her kids are sure to be cool and hard-core. There’s no way around it! And naming her kids after massive metal bands means that she’s hard-core herself! This family deserves a lifetime supply of free tickets to metal shows!
