‘Mister Rogers’ Movies Can’t Come Soon Enough
Is it just me, or could the world use a big dose of Mister Rogers right about now? The late Fred Rogers was more than just a Presbyterian minister and children’s television show host. He was an exemplary role model for people of all ages. Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood had one consistent message during its thirty-three run: Love thy neighbor. It’s such a simple, straightforward lesson; so why do we have such difficulty learning it?
Perhaps seeing Mister Rogers on the big screen will inspire us all to try harder. Two new movies about Fred Rogers and his pioneering PBS program are on their way to theaters. Tom Hanks will be starring in the biopic You Are My Friend, which is in the early stages of production. No word yet on when that will be released. However, the documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? opens on June 8th. If the trailer is any indication of the emotional impact this film will have, you might want to bring a box of tissues to the theater.
