A Man Has Died After Trying To Save A Child In North Carolina
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in the Outer Banks on Thursday.
According to the Southern Shores Police Department, a 32-year-old man drowned after he jumped in the ocean to save his girlfriend’s son.
The boy, 12, was swimming with two teens when the water unexpectedly became rough.
An article published on WISTV said at the time the man jumped in, the boy had been pushed deep into the ocean and his mom couldn’t see him in the water.
The man, who has been identified as Kenny Ray Gooch, quickly disappeared in the choppy water as well.
At that time, two other people near the scene jumped into the ocean and were able to rescue the 12-year-old boy.
Sadly, Gooch didn’t make it out of the water alive, rather, rescuers recovered his body a short time later.
Gooch becomes the eighth drowning victim in the area this season.
