‘Travel + Leisure’ Says These 2 Beaches In The Carolinas Are Among The Best In The U.S.
Summer is almost here! It’s time to think about soaking up some sun, splashing around in the surf, and shaking the sand out of your shorts. We’re so lucky to live in the Carolinas because it means we don’t have to drive too far to find some of America’s best beaches. Well, unless you’re me and insist on making the trek to the Outer Banks every year.
Travel + Leisure has shared their top U.S. beaches to visit this year. The magazine’s criteria includes the quality of the sand, the waves, level of seclusion, public transportation and accessible parking, whether there’s a boardwalk, activities, and even the amount of shade. A couple of iconic beach spots in North Carolina and South Carolina each made the top 25 list.
Best Beaches In The Carolinas
One of the first beaches I ever heard about in North Carolina is Wrightsville Beach. It’s the kind of place that families from across the state have been going to for generations. Just a stone’s throw from Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach has a lot to offer. Travel+ Leisure calls it “a quintessential beach town” and gives it praise for its beachfront hotels, water sports, surf shops, fishing pier, bars, and nightlife.
A few hours down the Atlantic coast is another one of Travel + Leisure’s 25 Best Beaches in the USA. Coligny Beach Park in Hilton Head, South Carolina gets high marks for being so well maintained and accessible. Visitors enjoy amenities such as wheelchair- and stroller-friendly matting leading to the water, as well as gazebos, benches, and swings. The showers and splash fountain are perfect for rinsing off sand-covered kids. There’s even free Wi-Fi. Coligny Beach Park is also supposed to be an exceptionally good place for spotting dolphins.
