Local Marching Band Features Elton John
You probably knew that UNC-Charlotte started a football program back in 2013 and it has spurred so much more activity around the local campus than just the football games.
The fan base has grown year after year and so have the spirit organizations. The largest and most visible spirit organization on campus is The Pride Of Niner Nation Marching Band which began in 2016. With over 150 members, they perform at every home game during pre-game and halftime. They also perform each game-day at the Houser Alumni Pavilion before the game.
Plus, this year, the Niners are headed to their first bowl game, the Bahamas Bowl in Nassau.
The band has also been invited to perform at a Carolina Panthers halftime at Bank Of America Stadium, at the Clemson vs UNCC game, they’ve traveled to Normandy France to play at the 74th anniversary of D-Day and at multiple high school band exhibitions around the area which showcases the opportunity for local students to join a top-notch band organization in their college years.
One of the featured halftime shows for 2019 is a tribute to Elton John. I thought you might like to enjoy the show, featuring a medley of “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” and “I’m Still Standing”, plus “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” and “Rocket Man”.
Full disclosure, I’ve had the honor of being the announcer for The Pride Of Niner Nation Marching Band for the last 4 years and I’m extremely proud of these young men and women.
