This American Idol Audition Video Proves 80’s Rock Never Dies
Without question, 1980’s rock and roll is my favorite. It’s what I grew up on and the 80’s were the hayday of MTV and music videos. I don’t think there’s an 80’s music video that I haven’t seen. Yes, I watched a lot of MTV and TV as a kid.
I don’t really watch “American Idol” but when I saw the description of this video audition, I knew I had to check it out. On February 21, a 15 year-old contestant named Casey Bishop decided to audition for the show by singing an old Motley Crue tune. YES! Bishop, who is a fan of old school rock music, sang the tune “Live Wire” by Motley Crue. If you’re familiar with the song, it’s pretty heavy. Bishop did the tune in her own style though, and it still rocked!
When I was watching this video, I flashed back to the early 1980’s. I had Motley Crue’s “Live Wire” cassette and I wore that thing out. To date, it’s still my favorite album by the band. It was heavy and not over produced. It was not only refreshing to see a different take on the song, it was also good to see someone young going back to the music of my teenage years. My guess is that Bishop’s parents are about my age and are old school rockers! Excellent parenting!
Bishop is well rounded musically as she also performed some Ella Fitzgerald for the judges. All three judges ,Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, were stunned. I got chills when I watched this video. This kid can sing! Luke Bryan says this girl will be a “massive star” and I don’t disagree.
What do you think? Take a look at the video. And for those of you that still enjoy the Motley Crue version of the song, I posted that video too! The band was so young! I still love the song!
