Charlotte Makes Another Top Cities List…This Time For Bed Bugs
You can’t go many days without seeing some sort of city rankings list. Well, Charlotte has made another one. This one isn’t one to be proud of though. Charlotte has made another top cities list, this time for bed bugs. Gross. According to pest control company Orkin, Charlotte is home to a lot of bed bugs. Charlotte came in number 11 on their ranking of cities with the most instances of bed bugs. We jumped 9 spots from last year. Not good
Turns out these tiny hitchhiking pests are quite fond of our city, according to the latest numbers available through Atlanta-based Orkin, a company that specializes in pest control services. In fact, Charlotte ranked No. 11 on the 2021 list, according to Orkin — up nine spots from last year. Our neighbors in Raleigh came in number 17 (which is 3 spots lower than last year) and Greensboro was 34th. Ironically the only people I’ve ever known who had an issue with bed bugs were in Raleigh.
The rankings are based on the number of bed bug treatments performed by Orkin from December 1, 2019, and November 30, 2020, in both residential and commercial settings. So the numbers could be skewed based on if some cities have a higher prevalence of other pest control companies.
Here is the list of the top 10 cities for bed bug infestations:
- Chicago, Illinois
- Baltimore, Maryland
- Washington, D.C.
- Detroit, Michigan
- Columbus, Ohio
- Cleveland, Ohio
- Indianapolis, Indiana
- Cincinnati, Ohio
- Los Angeles, California
- Grand Rapids, Michigan
Charlotte was number 11.
