TikTokers Swear Drinking Boiled Lettuce Leaves Help You Fall Asleep
I’m not on TikTok but every other day my friends text me videos from the site. And as with every social media site, TikTok offers “hacks” for life. (Insert eye roll from me) Do they work? I guess it depends on who you are and what you’re willing to do. The newest “hack” is to help you fall asleep and I gotta say, it sounds nasty.
TikTok user @shapla_11 says she’s found a cheap and easy way to help insomnia. In the video, she pours boiling water over some lettuce leaves in a mug, lets them steep, then removes the greens and drinks the water. It’s like lettuce tea. If you’re wondering how it tastes, she says it really has no flavor.
The video has already been seen over six million times and others on the site have also tried it. They say it’s definitely a natural sleep-aid and it works. Oddly enough, science agrees with the sleep aid. Studies show that lettuce, especially romaine lettuce, contains a phytonutrient called lactucarium that can induce sleep. It’s also said to reduce pain. Lettuce and lettuce seed oil (which I didn’t know was a thing) has been shown to help treat insomnia.
I’m a huge salad fan but I’m not sure about using lettuce as a tea. However, I’d try it! Find out more here.
