Meet Jamie & Julie – Charlotte Family Housing
Jamie and Julie, along with their son Julien, arrived at Charlotte Family Housing (CFH) with just a few clothes to their name following a job loss that hit their family hard. Relocating from Georgia to Charlotte in search of a better life, they initially stayed with a relative while seeking employment, but inconsistent support led to homelessness.
Upon joining CFH’s shelter-to-housing program, Jamie and Julie were determined to create stability for Julien and pursue their aspirations. With assistance from their CFH housing coordinator, they secured a home in a Christ Church condominium, enabling Julien to thrive academically and socially. CFH’s social worker, Connie, guided them in budgeting, future planning, and accessing essential resources, resulting in employment for both parents. Despite a setback during a holiday season, where overspending and financial missteps risked their progress, a frank conversation with Connie spurred Jamie and Julie to make transformative changes. Their diligence paid off as they conquered debt, consistently met housing and utility payments and partnered with the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America for homeownership preparations.
Their success, fostered by the collaboration between Christ Church and Charlotte Family Housing, showcases the transformative impact of support, enabling them to overcome challenges, stabilize their son’s life, and progress toward lasting self-sufficiency.
