It’s August 5th and just like the days before and the ones to come, the history is weird, a little scary and we’ve got a list of them for you to enjoy. Every morning I wake up grateful for the day and wonder what strangeness is associated with it. (Yes, I admit I’m a different breed of human) Knowing major historical events is crucial to understanding how we live today. Seeing what happened in the past intrigues me.

You might think I’m ghastly, but I find history fascinating because of the weird and scary things that happen. Here are 5 of the weirdest and scariest facts for August 5th. Enjoy!

• Traffic Lights Arrive!

  Safety first! Did you know on August 5th, 1914 the 1st electric traffic light was installed in the USA. It was installed at the corner of East 105th Street and Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio.

• A Star was Gone

  It was a sad day on August 5th, 1962. Famous actress/model Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her bedroom. Her death was ruled a suicide and a bottle of empty sleeping pills was found next to her. Her real name was known as Norma Jean Mortenson or Norma Jean Baker.

• Houdini Escapes!

  On August 5th, 1926 Harry Houdini stayed in a coffin under water for 1½ hrs before escaping. What in the hell! The coffin was submerged in a swimming pool of New York's Hotel Shelton. Houdini claimed he did not use any supernatural powers to accomplish his escape, he just used controlled breathing.
