I am a bit of a history buff and the Carolinas are steeped in history. House Beautiful put together a list of the oldest towns in each state in the country.
Here in North Carolina, you will find the oldest town on the coast. Bath, North Carolina was settled by Native Americans then the English moved in around 1695. Bath is the first incorporated town in North Carolina and was the first official port of entry for the Colonies.
The oldest town in South Carolina does not come as a surprise. Charleston was settled before Bath in 1670. At first, they called it Charles Town in honor of the king at the time. It was eventually shorted to just Charleston. Still, people often refer to it as “Chuck Town”. Charleston began the colonization of South Carolina.
