7 Steps To Preparing Your Home For Holiday Decorating
Even if you don’t believe in putting Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving, you can start doing a few things now to prepare your home for the holidays. After all, that 12-foot Buddy the Elf inflatable deserves a stage worthy of his festiveness. Here are some pre-decorating steps you (or someone you hire) can take this month:
Outside
- Get your mind in the gutter. Since its fall, you’ll want to clear your gutters and downspouts of leaves anyway, but you can also use that time to wipe down the outer surfaces before hanging icicle lights.
- Take a little off the top. Net lights can create a nice effect but not when they’re sitting on shaggy bushes. Bust out those hedge clippers.
- Mow, mow, mow. How do you like it, how do you like it? Neatly trimmed! Any decorations you put in your yard will look better on a freshly cut lawn and it will probably the last time you have to mow before spring.
- Old school R&B. Get your pre-holiday groove on with some Raking & Bagging. Once the leaves and clippings are gone, you’ll be ready to transform your yard into the North Pole.
Inside
- Declutter your domicile. Unless you already live a minimalist lifestyle, chances are you’ll need to make some room in your home to accommodate your Christmas tree and nutcrackers.
- Clean up your act. Preparing for the Christmas season is a prime opportunity to give your home a good scrubbing. Not only will it make your decorating look better, it will also make your life easier if you’re hosting any holiday parties in the coming weeks.
- Take inventory. Nothing drives me crazier than having to literally drive to the hardware store multiple times because we’ve suddenly discovered that we need more ornament hooks or another extension cord. See what you need before you start decorating and make one trip.
