When it comes to turkey, North Carolina talks the talk and walks the walk. If you’ve spent any time driving around our beautiful state, there’s a good chance you’ve passed a turkey farm, especially between Charlotte and the coast. Here are some turkey truths:
- North Carolina ranks No. 2 in U.S. turkey production. (Minnesota is No. 1.)
- 33.5 million turkeys were produced in North Carolina in 2016.
- Forty-one percent of the state’s turkeys came from Sampson and Duplin counties in 2016.
- Butterball, America’s largest producer of turkey products, is headquartered in Garner, NC. The company produces more than 1 billion pounds of turkey every year.
