Granny Came Up With A Great Gift For Kids Instead Of Toys
“Grandma’s Adventure Box” is a great gift idea that Darlene Waller came up with last year, and I like it! Darlene has two grandsons, one is 11 years old and one is 9 years old. Instead of filling their rooms with more “stuff”, last year Darlene decided to give them events as gifts. She gave both the boys a chest filled with envelopes and a note explaining that she was giving them family time adventures for their Christmas gifts.
Each boy received 12 envelopes, labeled one per month with a specific theme. Inside each of the envelopes, is a different pre-planned and paid date for the boys to go on with Darlene, or with their parents, or with their aunt and uncle. “Some you choose, some I choose,” the note explains. But all the events are family activities.
The kids have to wait to open an envelope at the beginning of each month to see what surprise they could look forward to. The activities are things like going to the movies, laser tag, bowling, and sporting events. Darlene says her grandsons loved the gift, and that their parents did as well. The boys get to do fun stuff, and they accumulate less clutter, as they aren’t getting more toys.
This is a cool idea because it encourages family time, while doing something fun. And kids don’t have an overabundance of toys, and things they don’t play with. I like it! Something to think about while shopping this year.
