Two years ago, when we first heard that there was going to be a movie based on the Downton Abbey TV series, I offered up a list of titles for the film. I don’t know whether the producers didn’t like my suggestions or if they simply never saw them, but it doesn’t appear that Fifty Shades of Grantham or Fast & Furious: Downton Drift made the cut. Pity.
The first full-length trailer for the Downton Abbey movie has been released. Returning cast members include Maggie Smith as the ‘Dowager Countess of Grantham,’ Michelle Dockery as ‘Lady Mary Crawley,’ Laura Carmichael as ‘Lady Hexham,’ Elizabeth McGovern (top left) as ‘Lady Grantham,’ Hugh Bonneville (top right) as ‘Lord Grantham,’ and Allen Leech as ‘Tom Branson.’
Written by series creator Julian Fellowes, the film picks up in 1927, a few years after the television show ended. The Crawleys find themselves getting ready for a visit from the King and Queen. Weekend at Crawley’s would have been a perfect title! Nevertheless, Downton Abbey opens in theaters on September 20th.
