McDonald’s ‘Worldwide Favorites’ Ranked
Not all McDonald’s menus are created equal. Different countries have different burgers. And other stuff. But you don’t need a passport and a plane ticket anymore to taste some of Mickey D’s more exotic fare.

McDonald’s has brought some of their most popular international menu items stateside for this summer. My 17-year-old son volunteered to be my personal Uber Eats driver and brought all four of the global goodies home for us to try. Here’s how I rank them, from first to meh:
1. Stroopwafel McFlurry (Netherlands) – A stroopwafel is a waffle made from two thin layers of baked dough with a caramel syrup filling in the middle. That’s crumbled up and mixed into a vanilla McFlurry. Yeah. Winner!
2. Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich (Canada) – It’s like a chicken parmigiana with lettuce, tomato and onions on a brioche roll. You can order it with grilled chicken, but everything tastes better fried.
3. Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger (Spain) – I think of this as a continental Quarter Pounder with the addition of Gouda cheese and something called McBacon sauce. Not bad, but it might take some getting used to.
4. Cheesy Bacon Fries (Australia) – The name suggests this should be awesome, but I thought it was just average, and not at all exotic (Can you make bacon out of kangaroo?). My son said these fries tasted the way bacon-flavored dog treats smell. Harsh. Maybe McDonald’s should have left these Down Under.
All in all, this is a cool marketing idea. I’m hoping McDonald’s brings more of their Worldwide Favorites to the U.S., especially India’s vegan McAloo Tikki Burger, a samosa-spiced veggie patty made from potatoes and peas. But whatever McDonald’s decides to bring from overseas, I’m willing to try it in the name of goodwill and gluttony.
