Fast Walkers Live Longer Than Slow Walkers
I walk fast everywhere, all the time! I’ve always been a fast walker. I don’t do it to be healthy, I’m just a very impatient person. LOL!
According to a new study out of the University of Leicester in England, brisk walkers have a long road ahead. Researchers looked at 500,000 people in a new study and found that fast walkers lived an average of 20 years longer than their slow-paced counterparts. WOW! I may live forever!
Regardless of body mass, researchers found that fast walkers proved more physically fit, which served as a better indicator of mortality rates than weight. Any walking is better than no walking, so fast or slow, a good stroll is a step in the right direction. Experts say it boils down to fast walking is an indication of better physical fitness, regardless of weight or even height for that matter.
Good to know! I’m not in my best shape my any means, but I do tend to walk fast almost everywhere. It’s not that I’m in a hurry to get anywhere, because generally, I’m not. I’m just not the most patient person. Being behind a slow walker at a crowded place or at the grocery store will make me a little antsy.
At least now I know that walking fast isn’t a bad thing. Now I can tell my slow walking friends that it will benefit their health to walk faster. Whatever I can say to make them pick up the pace! More info on the study can be found here.
