“World’s Oldest Barber” Cut Hair For 96 Years

Do you think you could do the same job for 96 years? First of all, you would have to live even longer than that. That's exactly what Anthony Mancinelli did. The New York state man started cutting hair at age 12, four years after his family emigrated from Italy, and continued to do so until he died on September 19, 2019 at the age of 108.

According to Mr. Mancinelli's 82-year-old son, the man billed as the "World's Oldest Barber" simply loved his job. When Mancinelli began his career in 1923, he charged 25 cents for a haircut. As recently as this past summer, he worked at Fantastic Cuts in New Windsor, NY where haircuts cost $19. For many years, he had his own shop in Newburgh, NY. He saw a lot of different styles come and go over the decades.

In 2018, Mancinelli was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest practicing barber on the planet. The great-great-grandfather was also inducted into Ohio's National Barber Museum and Hall of Fame just one week before his death from cancer.
