Lidl Finally Opening Its First Store In Charlotte
Thus far, Charlotteans who have wanted to experience European-style grocery shopping at Lidl would have to make the trek to Concord, Indian Trail, or Rock Hill. That’s all about to change.
Talk of Lidl opening in Charlotte has been going on for years. After some false starts, the German company announced last week that its first location within Charlotte’s city limits will finally be opening on Wednesday, December 4th.
The new 15,000-square-foot Lidl store is located at 9318 Monroe Road, just south of McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. According to a company media release, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:40 AM on December 4th, followed by a weekend-long celebration with prizes for shoppers.
If you’ve never been to a Lidl before, it’s a bigger, more polished version of Aldi, the other German discount food retailer in the area. I’ve only been to the Indian Trail location twice, but I’ll give it another shot once its open closer to home. Another Lidl store is expected to open on Margaret Wallace Road in Matthews this year, too, and that location is hiring. Beginning in January 2020, Lidl will be expanding its healthcare coverage for all employees, including part-time workers.
