Six Reasons You Should Nap More
When I saw the headline for this story, I said out loud to myself, “Who the heck needs SIX reasons? One works for me.” That said, this article was interesting.
I wake up weekdays at 3 A.M. If I’m lucky I’ll get six hours of sleep a night. By the time Friday rolls around, I am exhausted! The older I get the more I enjoy doing nothing on Saturday and Sunday. I try to nap at least once during the week, but it doesn’t always work out.
After seeing this article about the benefits of naps, I think I need to try a bit harder to take them more often. The advice given in this article on Popsugar says naps should be taken while at work if necessary. Napping can make your day more enjoyable. Naps revitalize your mind and your body which can make you more productive.
Naps can also reduce anxiety and depression. Many of us deal with both of these issues, and during the holidays, these two things can increase greatly. Winding down can be a stress reliever, so a power nap may help you with both of these things, especially during high stress times.
Naps are also good for strengthening personal and professional relationships. If you’re tired, you are more likely to become annoyed and snippy. I’ll admit that if I’m tired, I’m very cranky!
If you nap right, it shouldn’t interfere with your evening sleep. A good 30-45 minute nap can perk you right up. Naps can also help you live longer, which is a total bonus.
The getting up early thing was reason enough for me, but all these reasons have re-affirmed by need to nap. And I’m thinking, one is in my future today!
If you have some time off for the holidays, don’t feel bad for napping. Listen to your body and do what’s best for you. A quick 30 minute power nap can make all the difference.
