Julia Louis-Dreyfus And Will Ferrell Go ‘Downhill’ As Married Couple In New Movie
I’m a fan of Julia Louis-Dreyfus going back to her brilliant work on Seinfeld. She’s great in everything she’s done: Veep, Enough Said, Arrested Development. I could go on. I also like Will Ferrell. His comedies are some of the funniest I’ve ever seen. He even starred in an underrated 2010 drama called Everything Must Go. On paper, I should look forward to seeing a new movie starring these two actors, but I’m a little unsure about this one.
In Downhill, Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus play a married couple who take their kids on a European ski vacation. An avalanche at the resort, which they survive, forces the couple to reevaluate their marriage. The film is billed as a dark comedy, but the trailer makes it seem more sad than funny. I know, I know, it’s just a trailer.
The creative team behind Downhill includes the Academy Award-winning writers of The Descendants. One of those writers is Charlotte-native Jim Rash, who also co-directed this new movie. It’s also worth noting that this is a remake of a 2014 Swedish film called Force Majeure. The similarities are hard to miss.
Perhaps I should take the opening date as a clue that Downhill will make me laugh. This movie about a marriage in serious jeopardy hits theaters on Valentine’s Day.
