Jessica Simpson On Dating John Mayer: ‘I Worried I Wasn’t Smart Enough For Him’
While promoting her upcoming memoir release, Jessica Simpson shared details about what it was like back when she dated John Mayer. “Again and again, he told me he was obsessed with me, sexually and emotionally,” Jessica said, per E! News.
She says while dating him, “I constantly worried that I wasn’t smart enough for him. He was so clever and treated conversation like a friendly competition that he had to win.” She also adds that she sometimes had someone check the spelling and grammar before she sent texts to him. Jessica explained that she used liquor to help her feel less nervous. “My anxiety would spike and I would pour another drink. It was the start of me relying on alcohol to mask my nerves.”
She adds that on top of all that, the relationship in itself was complex. “It was always on again, off again, on again, off again. I went back close to nine times.”
Jessica’s memoir, Open Book, will be out tomorrow (February 4).
