‘Tiger Slam’ Film Coming To Golf Channel May 24th
Sports fans haven’t had much live content to watch since the pandemic shut the world down. We’ve turned to sports documentaries instead to get our fix.
The Last Dance, ESPN’s ten-part series about Michael Jordan and the 1990s Chicago Bulls, is the most-watched documentary in the network’s history. After it ends on May 18th, ESPN will start airing several other 30 for 30 films on Sunday nights.
The Golf Channel is offering up its own sports documentary this month. Tiger Slam, a new film about Tiger Woods’ remarkable stretch of major tournament victories from 2000 to 2001, will debut on May 24th at 8:00 PM.
In a span of ten months, Tiger won golf’s four major championships consecutively: the 2000 U.S Open; the 2000 British Open; the 2000 PGA Championship; and the 2001 Masters. The film will show highlights and footage from each event.
According to Variety, Golf Channel had originally scheduled Tiger Slam to air after the Masters in April, but when the tournament was postponed due to the coronavirus, network executives decided to hold off.
By the way, the documentary will have its premiere on the same day as Turner Sports’ broadcast of “The Match,” a golf game between Tiger, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning. I’m sure that’s no coincidence.
