New York Department Of Health Investigating Chainsmokers Concert
The New York State Department of Health is investigating a Chainsmokers concert that took place in the ultra-wealthy Hamptons over the weekend, according to Rolling Stone. Video and photos of the show seem to indicate that concert attendees didn’t observe social distancing or other coronavirus guidelines,
The concert — titled, apparently without irony, “Safe and Sound” — was a drive-in concert where guests were able to sit outside their cars in designated areas that were at least six feet apart. Also on the bill was DJ D-Sol, aka Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon.
Last night, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo tweeted, “Videos from a concert held in Southampton on Saturday show egregious social distancing violations. I am appalled. The Department of Health will conduct an investigation. We have no tolerance for the illegal & reckless endangerment of public health.”

According to CNN, New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker sent a letter Monday inquiring about the concert to Southhampton’s Supervisor Jay Schneiderman; in the letter, the reminded Schneiderman that New York is still in a declared state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that several executive orders and health regulations requiring social distancing are in effect and have been issued since March.
“I am at a loss as to how the Town of Southampton could have issued a permit for such an event, how they believed it was legal and not an obvious public health threat,” Zucker wrote. CNN reports that Schneiderman’s band was also on the bill of the concert.
